The number of dengue infections in Bangladesh crossed the 20,000 mark this year, with 726 new cases reported in the 24 hours to Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest cases, the country’s total dengue infections have risen to 20,071, while the death toll stands at 61, the DGHS said in a statement.
Of the newly reported patients, 172 were hospitalized in Rangpur division, the highest among the affected areas. Khulna recorded 107 cases, while 101 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas and 83 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas.
The remaining cases included 81 in Chattogram division, 75 in Barishal, 65 in Rajshahi, 37 in Mymensingh and five in Sylhet.
The number of dengue infections recorded so far this year is significantly lower than the 102,861 cases reported throughout 2025, when the disease claimed 413 lives.
In 2024, dengue infected 101,214 people and caused 575 deaths across the country.
