Bangladesh's combined death toll from confirmed and suspected measles cases has risen to 849 after two more children died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Tuesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS classified both of the latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths. With the latest update, the number of suspected measles-related deaths has climbed to 753, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 96.
The country also recorded 896 new suspected measles cases during the reporting period, raising the cumulative number of suspected infections to 131,946.
Meanwhile, health authorities confirmed 123 new measles infections through laboratory testing, bringing the total number of confirmed cases nationwide to 16,531.
DGHS data also showed that since March 15, a total of 114,393 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalized across the country. Of them, 110,187 have recovered.
