Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 837 as two die in 24 hours

One of the two new suspected deaths was reported in Sylhet division and the other in Barisal division

Two more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Friday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 837.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified both of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 741, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 96, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Of the two new suspected fatalities, one was reported in the Sylhet division and the other in the Barisal division.

A total of 900 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Friday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 128,310.

During the same period, 185 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 16,059.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 110,987 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 106,859 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
