Three die of dengue, 251 fresh cases reported

Bangladesh this year has witnessed so far 22 deaths

Health officials on Wednesday said they recorded 251 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts, killing at least three persons in the past 24 hours, with most patients reporting to health facilities in the southwestern Barisal region.

“During the period, 66 patients (of the 251) were hospitalized in the Barisal division," which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito-carried diseases, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

It said among the rest, 40 were hospitalized in the Chittagong division, 19 in the Dhaka division excluding the capital, 24 in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 33 in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 40 in the Khulna division, 15 in the Mymensingh division, 13 in the Rajshahi division, and two in the Sylhet Division.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts, Bangladesh this year has witnessed so far 22 deaths, while the disease inflicted 7,557.

Dengue last year claimed 413 lives and afflicted 102,861 people in the country.

Besides, dengue claimed 575 lives and afflicted 101,214 people in 2024.
