Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has said that the government’s decision to cancel the licence of Ad-Din Hospital is fully justified, as the facility failed to ensure a safe treatment environment for newborns and children.
The minister made the remarks on Tuesday morning while speaking at the inauguration of the Clinical Management Guidelines for measles treatment at Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital.
He said no one would be spared if they defy government directives and laws, adding that strict action would be taken against those involved in irregularities and negligence.
He alleged that the hospital lacked a proper ventilation system to ensure oxygen supply, and that despite newborns suffering from respiratory distress, no doctor was present on duty at the time. He also said that nurses failed to respond even after repeated calls for assistance.
Referring to the incident that reportedly led to the deaths of six newborns within a short span, he said the government was obligated to take action against the hospital.
Sahakawat Hossain further said that necessary reforms would be introduced to address long-standing irregularities and the lack of accountability in the health sector.
Expressing concern over the quality of healthcare services, he said that improvements in patient care have not progressed as expected.
However, he added that with the cooperation of doctors and nurses, the government has been able to build a strong response system against measles.
He also urged all physicians to work with sincerity and dedication in serving patients.
