Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 643 as one child dies in 24 hours

The  latest fatality occurred in Khulna and was classified as a suspected measles death

One child died with suspected measles in 24 hours till 8am Friday, raising Bangladesh's combined toll of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 643, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The  latest fatality occurred in Khulna and was classified as a suspected measles death.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths rose to 551, while laboratory-confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 92.

During the same period, 1,027 new suspected measles cases were reported, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 84,266.

DGHS also recorded 126 new laboratory-confirmed cases, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 10,185.

According to DGHS data, 68,934 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country since March 15. Of them, 65,275 have recovered.
