Measles outbreak: Death toll 631 as three children die in 24 hours

54 new cases were reported during the same period

Three more children died with suspected measles symptoms across the country during the last 24 hours, while a total of 54 new cases were reported during the same period.

With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths linked to measles and measles-like illnesses this year has risen to 631.

According to the bulletin, Dhaka, Sylhet and Mymensingh each reported one case.

According to the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of suspected measles cases recorded in last 24 hours stood at 980.

Since March 15, a total of 81,084 suspected measles cases has been reported nationwide.

The DGHS said that 54 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 to 9,833.

During the period from March 15 to June 9, a total of 81,084 patients with suspected measles were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 62,292 have recovered and been discharged.

No death from confirmed measles was reported in the last 24 hours. However, the cumulative number of deaths among confirmed measles cases has reached 92 since March 15.

The DGHS also reported three deaths among suspected measles cases during the past 24 hours, raising the total number of deaths among the suspected cases to 539 since March 15.

So far, the highest number of suspected measles cases has been recorded in Dhaka Division, with 37,798 cases.

Of these, 6,822 have been confirmed as measles.
