Measles outbreak: Five deaths, 1,115 suspected cases in 24 hours

Five children have died from measles and its symptoms across the country in the 24 hours till 8am Friday, according to the latest bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the deaths, three were confirmed as measles cases, while two involved measles-related symptoms.

During the same period, 1,115 new suspected cases were recorded nationwide, including 127 confirmed through laboratory testing.

Health data show a sustained rise in infections since mid-March, with 3,192 confirmed cases and 21,467 suspected cases reported between March 15 and April 17.

Over the same period, 11,243 patients have recovered after receiving treatment.

The death toll from confirmed measles infections has reached 37 since March 15, while 174 deaths have been reported among suspected cases.

Dhaka Division remains the worst-affected region, reporting 9,274 suspected infections, including 1,965 confirmed cases, underscoring the concentration of the outbreak in the densely populated capital region.
