Measles outbreak: Seven suspected deaths, 1,187 cases in 24 hours

A total of 674 patients were admitted to hospitals, including 261 in Dhaka alone

Measles infections continued to surge across the country, with seven more suspected deaths and 1,187 new suspected cases reported in 24 hours till 8am on Thursday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The deaths were recorded between 8am Wednesday and 8am Thursday. Of them, four occurred in Rajshahi division, two in Dhaka, and one in Sylhet.

In its daily bulletin, DGHS said 1,187 suspected measles cases were reported during the same period, with the highest number—504 cases—recorded in Dhaka. During the same period, 674 patients were admitted to hospitals, including 261 in Dhaka alone.

The bulletin also said 642 confirmed measles cases were reported, while 560 patients were discharged from hospitals over the same timeframe.

According to DGHS data, a total of 143 people have died with suspected measles since March 15, while 23 deaths have been confirmed as caused by the disease.
