Dengue: 1 dead, 633 cases detected in 24hrs

Since the dengue outbreak began in Bangladesh this year, 367 deaths and 91,602 cases have been reported

Health officials on Tuesday said they recorded 633 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts, killing at least one person in the past 24 hours.

"We recorded deaths of one dengue patient in 24 hours ending at 8am today," a spokesman of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, adding his office simultaneously recorded 633 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts during the same period.

According to the DGHS statistics, one died in the area with the purview of the Dhaka North City Corporation.

"Out of the 633 fresh cases, 82 were hospitalized in Barisal division, 86 in Chittagong division, 126 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 81 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 136 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 47 in Khulna division, 40 in Mymensingh division, 23 in Rajshahi division, six in Rangpur division and six in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts in Bangladesh this year, 367 deaths have been reported, while the disease has inflicted 91,602.

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
