Treat stroke within 90 minutes

Update : 14 Sep 2013, 04:54 PM

Stroke is the leading cause of disability and death in adults all over the world. It affects the main arteries within the brain. A person may have a stroke if an artery gets blocked by a blood clot or an artery ruptures causing bleeding into brain.

After strokes various body functions are grossly or partially hampered. Patients are much less likely to have lasting disability after a stroke if they are treated soon, says a new European study.

The study, published in the online version of a journal, STROKE, found that patients who received thrombolytic drugs within 90 minutes had a 37% better improvement rate than patients who were treated later.

After three months, these patients had little or no disability in comparison with those who were treated between 90 and 270 minutes.
