icddr,b expands world-class diagnostics services in Motijheel

This strategic addition aims to deliver world-class diagnostic services to residents of the southern part of Dhaka City Corporation

icddr,b Diagnostic Laboratories, the first in Bangladesh to achieve ISO 15189 (Quality) and ISO 15190 (Safety) accreditations, has expanded its services with the inauguration of a new sample collection centre in Motijheel.

The centre will be operational daily from 7:30am to 7:30pm, from December 24.

This strategic addition aims to deliver world-class diagnostic services to residents of the southern part of Dhaka City Corporation.

Dr Tahmeed Ahmed, Executive Director of icddr,b, inaugurated the facility, accompanied by prominent members of icddr,b’s senior leadership team, including Brigadier General (Retd) Dr Md Fazlul Kabir, Head of Clinical and Diagnostic Services and Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman, Acting Senior Director of the Infectious Diseases Division.

Speaking at the event, Dr Ahmed said: “At icddr,b, we are committed to developing and delivering improved healthcare services to underserved communities. This expansion aligns with our vision of a healthier world where more lives are saved. The new centre will ensure accessible, high-quality diagnostic services for the community, promoting better health outcomes for all.”

Dr Fazlul Kabir added: “The need for a diagnostic facility in the southern part of Dhaka has been long recognized, with residents expressing a strong desire for accessible, globally benchmarked services in this area. At icddr,b, we uphold the highest standards of diagnostic accuracy by investing in rigorous quality control measures and adhering to internationally recognized protocols.”

The new collection centre is conveniently located on the 3rd floor of Lily Pond Centre, 3 RK Mission Road, Motijheel, Dhaka (near Ittefaq Mor).

The facility will serve neighborhoods such as Motijheel, Wari, Kotwali, Sutrapur, Bangsal, Gendaria, Gopibagh and Kamalapur, enhancing access to icddr,b’s top-tier diagnostic services.

Notably, the revenue generated from icddr,b’s diagnostic services supports free medical care for over 250,000 patients annually at its two hospitals in Dhaka and Matlab.
