Two more die of dengue in 24hrs

Total death toll now 188

Two more people have died of dengue in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, raising this year's death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 188.

During this period, 1,218 more patients were hospitalized with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

One of the deaths was reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while the other occurred in Barisal division.

Among the newly hospitalized patients, 256 were admitted to hospitals under DNCC, and 169 in DSCC.

DGHS records show that the number of dengue fatalities has been steadily rising throughout the year, with 14 deaths in January, three in February, five in March, two in April, 12 in May, eight in June, 12 in July, 27 in August, and 80 in September.

Since the beginning of 2024, Bangladesh has recorded a total of 35,365 dengue cases. The previous year was the deadliest on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 reported cases.
