Eight more deaths from dengue were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, bringing the total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 158 in 2024, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During this period, 1,221 additional patients were hospitalized with viral fever.
Among the reported deaths, five occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation, one in the Dhaka North City Corporation, and one each in the Barisal and Khulna divisions.
In terms of hospitalizations, 206 dengue patients were admitted in the Dhaka North City Corporation, while 228 were treated in the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Currently, approximately 830 patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country.
Since January 1, 2024, a total of 29,786 dengue cases have been reported.
In 2023, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.
The DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
