Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has sought assistance from deputy commissioners to take action against illegal clinics and hospitals across Bangladesh.
“DCs shared the state of the health sector in their areas in their meeting with us. Some talked about labour shortages as well as a lack of hospital beds and funds. We have noted their demands and will address them gradually,” the minister told reporters on Sunday after attending the DC conference.
“We have informed them about our recent drives against illegal clinics and diagnostic centres. We have asked for their assistance during our drives because we do not have any judicial power, which DCs have,” the minister added.
In recent times the health ministry has closed 22 hospitals and clinics across the country, and its drives are ongoing.
Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the four-day DC Conference 2024 at the Shapla Hall of the PMO. Later, ministry-wise sessions started at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
