Health minister: Antibiotics not to be used in primary healthcare

According to health experts, inappropriate use of antibiotics reduces resistant capacity of human body

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday said that the use of antibiotics would not be allowed in primary healthcare. 

“We are determined to improve the quality of the primary healthcare system,” said the minister at a meeting held in the ministry. 

“The entire health service will upgrade if we do well in primary healthcare,” he said. 

“One thing we need to emphasize is that the use of antibiotics would not be allowed everywhere in primary healthcare,” said the minister. 

Government will fix what is needed in this sector, said Zahid Maleque. 

He said: “We provide community clinics and 10 bed hospital facilities in this healthcare sector”.

These services are provided through union centres. Besides, there are some diagnostic centres and clinics, added the minister. 

Health minister Zahid Maleque on Tuesday said that formulation of new law is underway for stopping misuse of antibiotics.

"The Drug Act- 2022 is almost finalized ...it (law) will be placed at parliament very soon," he said.

According to health experts, inappropriate use of antibiotics reduces the resistant capacity of the human body.
