Covid restrictions lifted in Rajshahi as infection rate slumps

District authorities earlier ordered closure of all shops, businesses and shopping malls after 8pm

The local administration in Rajshahi has decided to suspend the night curfew from Monday as Covid-19 cases in the district are now declining.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil made the announcement through a public statement on Sunday. 

On January 28, a public notice was issued to close all shops, businesses and shopping malls after 8pm to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

At that time, the infection rate in the district rose to 75%, which has now declined to 10-12%.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh reported 28 more deaths with 4,838 fresh cases from coronavirus in 24 hours till Sunday morning. 

Sunday’s tally took the total number of deaths from the virus to 28,819 and cases to 1,909,668 in the country.

The daily positivity rate declined slightly to 14.85% which was 16.50% on Saturday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
