Daily Covid infection rate tops 38% in Chittagong

The district logged 111,123 cases since the start of the pandemic, of which 7,474 were logged in the last 11 days

The daily Covid-19 test positivity rate has crossed 38% in Chittagong.

The district recorded 1,026 cases at an infection rate of 38.64% in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, according to Chittagong civil surgeon’s office.

Chittagong had a 29% positivity rate the previous day – one percentage point higher than the national average.

The rate had surpassed the 30% mark on January 19 and could cross 40% soon if daily coronavirus cases keep piling up.

Meanwhile, the civil surgeon’s office recorded zero deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Chittagong has recorded 111,123 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, of which 7,474 were logged in the last 11 days.

Bangladesh recorded 9,614 new Covid-19 cases at an infection rate of 28.02% in the 24 hours to 8am on Saturday.

The country’s daily test positivity rate has been witnessing an increase since January 1.

A test positivity rate of over 5% is a cause for concern for any country, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
