14 more die at RMCH Covid-19 unit in 24 hours

Some 517 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital’s Covid unit

Fourteen more deaths were recorded at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last 24 hours till Monday morning, as the country continues to reel from a devastating second wave of the pandemic.

Of the deceased, six had tested positive for Covid-19, four had the symptoms but had not been tested or did not have their test results, the others died after recovering from the infectious deceases.

Of them, five were the residents of Rajshahi, four from Natore, two from Chapainawabganj and Naogaon each, and one from Pabna district. 

They were aged between 21 and 65, RMCH Director Shamim Yazdani told Dhaka Tribune.

Yazdani said the hospital had counted a record number of 25 fatalities caused by Covid-19 on June 29 last since the pandemic began.

With the latest development, the overall death tally of Covid-19 patients at RMCH since July 1 now stands at 204 while 354 others died in June.

Sixty-four people were also admitted to the hospital’s Covid-19 unit in the last 24 hours till Monday morning, added the director.

Some 517 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital’s 454-bed Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 positivity rate continues to maintain an upward trend in the district. On Sunday, 513 samples were tested, of which 152 were positive.

The infection rate increased to 29.6 3% from 25.05% the previous day.
