Seventeen more patients have died in the last 24 hours to Saturday morning at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Of them, eight had tested Covid-19 positive, while the rest had only exhibited symptoms, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani confirmed on Saturday.
Of the deceased, who died between 8am Friday and 8am Saturday, nine were from Rajshahi district, four from Chapainawabganj, and two each from Natore and Naogaon.
With the latest count, the Covid-19 death toll at the RMCH in the last 26 days stands at 291, of which 136 patients were from Rajshahi and 101 from Chapainawabganj.
The current positivity rate in Rajshahi is 34.05%.
The highest single-day death toll -- 18 -- recorded at the RMCH this month was last Thursday and the lowest -- four -- on June 12.
RMCH Director Yazdani further said 52 new patients were admitted at the hospital’s Covid-19 unit and 34 were released after making full recovery in the last 24 hours.
Until 8am Friday, 431 Covid-19 patients were being treated at the hospital, which has a 357-bed capacity.
Of the total new positive cases, the highest 293 were detected from Rajshahi, followed by 56 from Chapainawabganj, 33 from Natore, 34 from Naogaon, nine from Pabna, 3 from Kustia, and one each from Chuadanga, Dinajpur and Dhaka.
Some 20 patients are undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
