Covid-19: Over 200 deaths Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in 20 days

As many as 377 people are currently undergoing treatment at the Covid unit

More than 200 people have died at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in 20 days.

In the 24 hours to Sunday morning, 10 patients died at the hospital’s coronavirus unit. Of them, one had tested positive, while the rest had only symptoms, said RMCH Director Brig Gen Shameem Yazdani.

Of the deceased, seven were from Rajshahi, two from Chapainawabganj and one from Naogaon, he said.

Sunday’s figures take the Covid-related fatalities at hospital to 203 between June 1 and June 20, added the RMCH director.

Of the deceased, 106 had tested positive, while the rest died with symptoms consistent with the infectious disease, he said before adding the tests for most them returned positive.

As many as 54 patients with Covid-19 symptoms have been admitted to the hospital in 24 hours to Sunday morning. Of them, 35 were from Rajshahi, nine from Chapainawabganj, three from Natore, six from Naogaon and one from Pabna.

With the latest development, 377 people are currently undergoing treatment at the Covid-19 unit, slightly above the capacity of 309 beds, as of 8am on Sunday.

On Saturday, Bangladesh reported 67 new deaths from the coronavirus, the highest daily count since May 2, taking the tally to 13,466. 

The caseload rose by 3,057 to 848,027, according to the latest data by the health authorities.
