Bangladesh vaccinates 542,309 people in 5 days

A little over 200,00 people were inoculated across the country on Thursday

Health authorities in Bangladesh have inoculated as many as 542,309 people against Covid-19 till Thursday. 

Of them, 386,578 were men and 155,731 were women, according to data provided by the Management Information System of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Meanwhile, a total of 204,540 people were administered the Covid-19 vaccine on Thursday, the fifth day of the countrywide vaccination drive.

Among them, 140,152 were men and 64,388 were women.

People aged 40 years and above can now sign up to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, Health Ministry sources said.

According to an earlier decision of the government, only people aged 55 years and above were eligible for receiving the vaccine, but the decision was revised a day after the launch of the countrywide vaccination campaign on February 7.

On Thursday, the vaccination drive was conducted at 50 hospitals in Dhaka and 1,005 hospitals outside the capital, the DGHS said, adding that the immunization program will begin at 8am and continue till 2:30pm every day.

However, some hospitals will continue administering vaccines throughout the day, it added.

The vaccine would be administered to people at government hospitals up to the upazila level. At least 1,159,879 Bangladeshis have signed up to take the Covid-19 vaccine so far.
