Dipu Moni: Teachers will get Covid-19 vaccine on priority basis

Residential students of all universities and colleges will soon be inoculated as well, says education minister

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday said teachers of all educational institutes would receive Covid-19 vaccination on a priority basis, in a bid to expedite the government’s move to reopen schools and colleges soon. 

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Vice Chancellor’s Award (gold medal) giving ceremony for students obtaining the best results at the affiliated colleges of the National University, said a press release. 

“All the educational institutions have been prepared for reopening,” she stated. 

The education minister said: “The Ministry of Education is considering reopening educational institutions soon on the basis of the recommendations of the national advisory committee on coronavirus.

“All teachers will be given the Covid-19 vaccine on a priority basis. Afterwards, the residential students of all universities and colleges will receive the vaccine as well.”

The government was also thinking of curtailing the syllabi of the SSC and HSC exams to be held in 2022, Dipu Moni mentioned.

NU Vice Chancellor Prof Harun-or-Rashid, Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah, among other top officials, attended the event.
