Covid-19: Positivity rate was below 10% in 44% districts last week

Contrastingly, 4 districts reported a significantly higher test-positivity rate — over 20% — during the same time frame

The overall Covid-19 test-positivity rate remains around 17% in Bangladesh right now. However, 44% of the districts of the country have reported test-positivity rates below the 10% mark in the last one week.

As many as 28 out of the total 64 districts reported test-positivity rates below 10% in the last week (November 9 to November 15), according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Notably, all four districts under Mymensingh Division reported test-positivity rates much below 10% during the period, as stated by the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Update issued by WHO on November 16.

During the time frame, the overall test-positivity rate in Mymensingh Division was 5.1% — 5.8% in Mymensingh district, 4.7% in Jamalpur, 4.4% in Netrokona and 1.8% in Sherpur.

Dhaka Division overall had a 10.8% test-positivity rate; Narayanganj district reported a 9% positivity rate, Tangail 8.2%, Madaripur 7.6%, Kishoreganj 6% and Manikganj 2.2%.

Although Chittagong Division reported a 12.6% positivity rate, three of its districts — Lakshmipur with 3.1%, Noakhali with 3% and Khagrachari with zero percent — reported positivity rates below 10%.

Barisal as a division reported the highest test positivity rate with 15.9% of the samples testing positive for Covid-19. However, two of its districts — Barguna with 9.2% and Patuakhali with 5.8% — reported rates below the 10% mark.

In Rangpur Division, three districts — Dinajpur and Nilphamari with 6.7% and Kurigram with 5.7% — recorded positivity rates under 10%.

Four districts under Rajshahi Division reported test-positivity rates below the 10% mark — 9.6% in Natore, 6.4% in Rajshahi, 6.3% in Sirajganj and 5.3% in Pabna.

Five districts under Khulna Division that saw test-positivity under 10% during the one-week period are Chuadanga with 9.6%, Meherpur with 6.1%, Khulna with 5%, Kushtia with 3.7% and Bagerhat with zero percent.

In Sylhet Division, Moulvibazar and Sylhet districts reported test-positivity rates of 8.2% and 7.1% respectively in the one-week time span.

Over 20% test-positivity rate in 4 districts

Four districts reported a significantly higher test-positivity rate — over 20% — in the last one week.

Narail under Khulna Division reported the highest 26.5% test-positivity rate followed by 26% in Shariatpur of Dhaka Division.

The rate was 22.1% in Gaibandha under Rangpur Division and 20.5% in Barisal district under Barisal Division.
