Secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Naren Das, has died from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
He breathed his last undergoing treatment for the deadly virus at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Public Relations Officer of the Law Ministry, Dr Rezaul Karim, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “The secretary was admitted to BSMMU on July 5 and tested Covid-19 positive on July 7.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of the senior government official.
She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Law Minister Anisul Huq also expressed their condolences and deep shock at the demise of Naren Das.
