Former Navy chief Rear Admiral (retd) Mohammad Mohaiminul Islam died of Covid-19 infliction.
He served as the chief of Bangladesh Navy from 1991 to 1995.
The 79-year-old breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Tuesday night.
A press release was issued by the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) in this regard on Wednesday.
The former navy chief was suffering from kidney ailments for a long while, and he was admitted to the CMH on July 1 after he tested positive for the deadly virus, said the release.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Naval Headquarters Mosque in Dhaka after Asr prayers.
He was then buried at the Banani Military Graveyard while maintaining proper health directives, the press release added.
Rear Admiral (retd) Mohammad Mohaiminul Islam was born on September 11, 1941, in an aristocratic Muslim family.
He later joined the then Pakistan Naval Academy as an officer cadet in 1959 and was commissioned on December 1, 1963, read the release.
