Ward 41 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) – a part of Wari - has been flagged as a red zone on Tuesday and is going into at least 21 days of lockdown from July 4.
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of DSCC, made the announcement at a media briefing after the second meeting of the Central Management Committee on Lockdowns at Nagar Bhaban in the capital.
“We will raise awareness among people in that area over the next three days using loudspeakers. We will notify them of emergency entry and exit points,” Taposh said.
The mayor also said a control room will be opened in the area and two routes will remain open for movement, while the rest of the routes will be closed.
“There will be sample collection booths for Covid-19 suspects inside the locked down area and an isolation centre for Covid-19 patients will be established at the Mohanogor (Metropolitan) General Hospital,” he added.
The mayor also said: “Arrangements will be made to supply daily commodities by coordinating with the e-Commerce Association. We will also contact departmental store authorities such as Meena Bazar and Swapno to ensure uninterrupted food supply for people under lockdown. We will enforce the lockdown till July 25, at least.”
He also said everything will be closed in the red zone except medicine stores. Unnecessary movement in the area will be prohibited.
“We will make all arrangements for general patients of the area and follow guidelines issued by the health directorate,” Taposh said.
Earlier, The Central Technical Group (CTG) on zone mapping for Covid-19 marked off three main roads and five feeder roads in ward 41 of DSCC as coronavirus red zones, officials said.
The Local Government Division (LGD) has issued a letter to the DSCC to implement a strict lockdown in the area as per standard operating procedures.
According to the map sent by the LGD, the main roads marked off as red zones are Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, and the road between Joykali Temple and Baldha Garden. The feeder roads are Larmini Street, Hare Street, Wyre Street, Rankin Street, and Nawab Street.
