The Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB) on Monday inaugurated Oxygen Bank and Medicare services in Barisal city for Covid-19 patients.

With the slogan ‘Bina Oxygeney Jhorey Porbey Na Kono Pran’ (none will die due to lack of oxygen), they inaugurated the program with five oxygen cylinders and 30 oximeters at their party office in the morning.

Dr Manisha Chakraborty, member secretary of the district unit of SPB, in the inaugural program of the service, said: “Many coronavirus infected patients died from lack of proper and speedy testing and supply of oxygen facilities. Hence we have taken this initiative.”

“If anyone needs help, he or she may call or inform us. Our volunteers will rush to their door with free medical services and determine their body oxygen levels with an oximeter. After testing, we will supply oxygen if needed, “Dr. Manisha added.

Oxygen support is a basic need for treatment of corona infected patients.

People are suffering as Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barisal is facing an acute shortage of oxygen supply. People are also deprived of speedy corona testing at the SBMCH and public hospitals, she said.
