Former Awami League Member of Parliament (MP) from Cox’s Bazar Abdur Rahman Badi had tested positive for Covid-19.

Results of his samples came back late Thursday, his Press Secretary Helal Uddin told Dhaka Tribune.

He said Badi, who was at his residence with coronavirus symptoms had left for Dhaka to get better medical treatment.

Badi, who was the ruling party lawmaker for the bordering constituency of Teknaf and Ukhiya, is also known to be the godfather of yaba trade.

Badi had been suffering from Covid-19 symptoms including fever and headache for a few days. He, along with all his family members, stayed in quarantine at their residence and their samples were collected.

After testing at the Cox’s Bazar Medical College Lab the former MP’s result came back positive, but his wife, present MP Shahin Akhtar’s samples resulted as negative.

However, she has been diagnosed with Typhoid.

About Badi’s health condition, Helal Uddin said, he is currently healthy, and he has left for Dhaka via his car on Friday evening so that he can get better treatment if his condition deteriorates.

No information about which hospital and where he will be staying has been disclosed.

Helal requested everyone to pray for quick recovery of the former MP.
