10 areas in Chittagong marked as red zones

None will be allowed to enter or exit from the red zone during the lockdown. The other areas will be put under the lockdown in phases, said the CCC authority

Amid surging Covid-19 cases and fatalities, the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) has primarily identified 10 areas of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) as red zones to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

The red zone areas are under Kotwali, Bandar, Patenga Pahartali, Khulshi and Halishahar police stations in the city.

The areas under the CCC are: Ward No. 37 (Uttar Madhyam Halishahar), Ward No. 38 (Dakshin Madhyam Halishahar), Ward No. 39 (Dakshin Halishahar), Ward No. 10 (Uttar Kattoli), Ward 16 (Chawkbazar), Ward No. 20 (Dewanbazar), Ward No. 21 (Jamalkhan), Ward No. 22 (Enayet Bazar), Ward 14 (Khulshi), Ward 26 (Halishahar).

Of them, Ward No. 10 (Uttar Kattoli) will be under lockdown first from June 16 on a trial basis.

The other areas will be placed under lockdown in phases.

In order to implement the decision of the technical committee, the CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin held a meeting with all the stakeholders at his office on Sunday.

Representatives from Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Civil Surgeon, Bangladesh Army, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and World Health Organization (WHO) attended the meeting.

After wrapping up the meeting, the CCC Mayor said that the Ward No. 10 of Uttar Kattoli would be placed under lockdown for three weeks.

“None will be allowed to enter or exit from the red zone during the lockdown. The other areas will be put under the lockdown in phases. There has been a massive coronavirus infection in the areas. Each of the 10 wards will be placed under lockdown for 21 days in a bid to rein in the rise of Covid-19 cases,” said the Mayor.

As of Sunday, Chittagong has recorded a total of 5084 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

Of them, 117 patients have died of the deadly viral disease.

As many as 371 patients have so far recovered from Covid-19 in Chittagong.

Currently, 448 persons are in home quarantine while 341 persons are in isolation.
