Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machine was installed at a private hospital in Brahmanbaria to detect coronavirus (Covid-19) infection for the first time in the district.
The district's Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hayat-ud-Daulah Khan was present as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Covid-19 test labratory in Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
Answering queries from journalists present, Dr Md Sayeed, the hospital's chairman and founder, said: "The hospital will begin testing on an experimental basis from today(Thursday). It will be fully launched on June 20. Our lab will be able to conduct tests of 300 people everyday almost for free if testing kits are supplied from the government. Only a negligible amount of money will be taken as service charge."
DC Hayat-ud-Daula said: "We greatly appreciate Dr Sayeed’s noble initiative during this time of crisis."
The district’s Civil Surgeon Dr Md Ekram Ullah said: "Higher authorities will be informed so that testing kits are supplied to the hospital. Besides, we have taken steps to start Covid-19 tests at Brahmanbaria General Hospital (Brahmanbaria 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital) as well.”
