A 100-year-old woman of Gopalganj has survived the coronavirus (Covid-19) infection despite being a patient of heart disease and old-age complications, her family members told Dhaka Tribune.

The woman was diagnosed with Covid-19 in mid-May when she was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka with cardiac complications.

"My mother has been suffering from heart disease and minor skin cancer for a long time. She had rings in her heart and was bed-ridden for about a year. She is also diabetic and had to undergo a gallbladder surgery once. She won against the virus despite all this; it's nothing short of a miracle," said her daughter on Tuesday.

She has remained quarantined at her daughter's house in Dhaka's Uttara, while three other members of the family have also tested positive for Covid-19.

"We took care of her as per the advice of doctors. Now my mother is free of coronavirus. She has tested negative twice. We took her back to our rural home a few days ago," added her daughter.

Dr Asit Kumar, general secretary of Gopalganj General Hospital, said the recovery of this woman proves that if the health guidelines are followed properly, people of any age can recover from Covid-19, including all the doctors and health staff who are fighting the virus from the front line.
