Freedom fighter dies from Covid-19 like symptoms in Manikganj

An acclaimed freedom fighter of Manikganj district has died of Covid-19 like symptoms at the Isolation Unit of Manikganj District Hospital.

The deceased, Safiuddin, 74, was a commander of Chowhali upazila and valiantly fought against the Pakistani Armed Forces under Muktibahini Sector No-11 in the Liberation War of 1971.

"Safiuddin got admitted to the hospital around 5pm on Tuesday with fever, breathing difficulties and other Covid-19 like symptoms and died early morning on Wednesday," said Dr Arshad Ullah, superintendent of the hospital.

"We took his samples to test for the virus and send it to Savar," added the official.

Gheor UNO Irony Akhter said the freedom fighter will be buried while maintaining all health protocols and state honour. 

The total number of infections in the district is 176, confirmed civil surgeon of the district Anwarul Amin Akand.
