Coronavirus infection among members of the police continue to rise in Bangladesh with 198 new cases reported in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
The latest cases take the tally of infections among law enforcers to 2,141, says the Bangladesh Police headquarters.
According to it, a total of 1,041 members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have now been infected with Covid-19, up from 909 on Thursday.
Sources at DMP the said most of the infections were reported among field-level officials, however, an additional deputy commissioner and an assistant commissioner have also caught the disease.
Figures from different police units in Bangladesh say, a total of 1,152 persons, suspected to be infected with Covid-19, are now in isolation while another 3,091 are kept in home and institutional quarantine after coming in contact with patients.
A total of 298 members of police have recovered while seven died of Covid-19.
Sources at the Bangladesh Police headquarter said that all measures have been taken at the Central Police Hospital along with other dedicated hospitals to ensure proper treatment of law enforcers.
