At least eight people have died while undergoing treatment at the Covid-19 unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the last 24 hours.
These deaths were recorded from Tuesday night to 9pm on Wednesday.
Of them, two tested positive for the disease, while the samples of the others have been collected for testing.
According to the hospital authorities, six of the deceased are male, and two female.
Of them, two of the deceased are aged over 60, three in the 40-49 age group, one in the 50-59 group, one in the 10-19 group, and one is under nine years of age.
Dr Alauddin Al Azad, assistant director of DMCH, said they had tested some 112 samples and found 29 of them positive on Wednesday.
When asked about the eight deaths, DMCH Director Big Gen MKM Nasir Uddin said one of the deceased had tested positive earlier.
Samples were collected from the rest of them, he added.
As many as 39 people have died at DMCH Covid-19 treatment facility since Saturday.
The DMCH started admitting patients with Covid-19 symptoms on May 1 after setting up a separate treatment facility at the old burn unit of the hospital.
