Two sixty-year-olds have died allegedly after consumption of expired liquor while undergoing treatment at the Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, Arun Das, 60, and Neela Das, 62, both residents of Sonadanga’s Moilapota were allegedly bought expired toxic liquor from a homeopathic shop of the area and fell sick afterwards, said Dr Anal Roy of KMCH
“Both of them died on Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the hospital,” said the doctor.
Sonadanga Police OC Momtajul Haque said: “Amid the coronavirus lockdown, how they both managed to buy the alcohol is suspicious. We are investigating the matter.”
Md Sirajul Islam, inspector of Department of Narcotics Control of the area said: “All liquor stores around the country have been shut down for coronavirus. If any homeopathic pharmacy is secretly selling alcohol we will, definitely take action against them.”
