About 12 people out of every 100 tested are found positive for coronavirus in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh so far confirmed 8,790 cases as of Saturday, out of total 76,066 tests conducted, according to data compiled by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Among the worst affected countries, the ratio is 17.13% in the United States, 16.46% in Spain, 10.38% in Italy, and 23.07% in France, according to worldometer.
In South Asian countries, the rate is 3.88% in India, 9.23% in Pakistan, 21.66% in Afghanistan, 2.96% in Sri Lanka, and 0.09% in Nepal.
83% cases in Dhaka
Bangladesh is breaking all its previous records of daily coronavirus infections almost every day, which can be attributed to the government’s initiative for increasing the sample testing.
A report provided by the IEDCR, provides a detailed picture by analyzing 7,260 cases out of total 8,238 infections till Friday.
Some 83% of the cases were from Dhaka city and districts under Dhaka division as a total of 6,031 cases were reported in the region against the total analyzed data of 7,260 cases.
Dhaka, as a city alone, hosts 54.72% of the cases as 3,973 infections were reported in the capital.
Among the other districts under Dhaka division, Narayanganj tops the list with 996 cases reported so far, followed by 322 in Gazipur, as both are industrial areas where maintaining social distancing has become difficult.
Out of the other divisions, Chittagong reports 4.60% of the cases with 334 positive infections, Mymensingh has 3.71% with 269 cases and Khulna has 2.02% cases with 147 cases.
Of the total number of cases Barisal holds 1.69% with 123 cases, Rangpur divisions holds 1.80% with 131 cases, Rajshahi has 1.53% of the cases with 111 cases and Sylhet has 1.57% of the cases with 114 cases.
