3 hospitals ready for Covid-19 positive police personnel

Till date 218 policemen have tested positive for Covid-19

Like the rest of the world, the number of coronavirus patients is increasing in Bangladesh. 

Police personnel are also getting infected while providing services to prevent the spread the coronavirus in the country.

Till date 218 policemen have tested positive for Covid-19, police sources said.

Three hospitals have already been prepared to ensure their (police members) well-being and keep their morale intact. 

A total of 600 policemen will be able to take treatment together in these hospitals. 

According to the Police Headquarters, coronavirus infected policemen are already being treated in Dhaka's Rajarbag Central Police Hospital with 150 bed facilities. 

The other two hospitals are Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital and Sirajul Islam Medical College and Hospital with a total of 450 beds.

According to police sources, there are plans to rent five more hospitals in five divisional areas for Covid-19 treatment with the same standards as in Dhaka hospitals.  

Of the 218 infected patients, 117 are from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

In the last 24 hours, 16 police personnel have been infected.

A total of 652 policemen were sent home and toinstitutional quarantine from March 8 to April 23, sources said.

On Wednesday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed held a video conference with high-level police officials regarding the matter.

He said police members are making people aware about the coronavirus and ways to protect oneself. 

Adequate financial grants have already been provided to various units for the purchase of security equipment. No negligence will be acceptable in providing security material to all police members.

Adequate medical supplies are being maintained in all police hospitals including the ones where Covid-19 infected police members are being given treatment. 

All kinds ofmeasures will be taken for the infected police personnel’s treatment, he added.
