Coronavirus: Hathazari upazila put under lockdown

The lockdown came into effect from 6:00pm on Sunday and it will remain in place until further notice

In a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus, the local administration has announced that Hathazari upazila in Chittagong will be placed under lockdown until further notice.

The upazila committee to contain and prevent coronavirus took the decision on Sunday, in accordance with the Infectious Disease (Prevention, Control and Elimination) Act, 2018.   

The lockdown came into effect from 6:00pm on Sunday and it will remain in place until further notice, said Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin.

“Neither people nor vehicles can enter the upazila until further notice.”

Emergency services, including medical services and supply of agricultural goods and food, will not fall under the purview of the lockdown.

As of Sunday, 35 patients have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Chittagong district. Of them, five patients including three men and two women have died of the viral disease.
