Three government medical officials have tested positive for coronavirus infection in Narayanganj.
Victoria General Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.
He said: “Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Dr Md Imtiaz tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday at 3pm. He was in home quarantine until yesterday. After testing positive for coronavirus infection, he is now in isolation.”
According to the district health department, Bandar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) Dr Md Abdul Kader also tested positive for coronavirus infection yesterday.
Previously, Narayanganj Sadar UHFPO Dr Md Zahidul Islam also tested positive.
Dr Zahidul, who is the district focal person for coronavirus is in isolation while Dr Kader is in home quarantine.
All of the infected government officials contracted the virus while performing their field duty.
However, some other government officials who came in contact with them while working tested negative for coronavirus infection.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) declared Narayaganj as a cluster area and on April 7, the district was put under lockdown.
In Narayanganj, eight new patients were infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 83 while eight people died.
