Bangladesh Police has urged all police members to keep themselves protected on the field to fight off the coronavirus spread in the country.

Police Headquarters Assistant Inspector General (Media) Md Sohel Rana expressed his concern on the importance of policemen protecting themselves in a video statement on Thursday.

AIG Sohel said despite the shortage of protective gears, members of the police force are working tirelessly to combat the virus from spreading in the country.

On risking life in line of duty, the police official said special circumstances or immediate needs may require members of police force to fulfill duty in unprotected condition to help the people in need.

However, he assured that Bangladesh Police is working hard to ensure the safety of every police member.

Sohel said: “I want to say every honourable police member must ensure their own protection to make sure the safety of the general public. Besides, you have to protect yourself to protect your own family.”

As policemen are creating awareness and promoting health guidelines to people to maintain social distancing, they must maintain the guideline themselves, the police official said.

If members of the police force are not healthy and safe, it will be difficult to protect people of this country, he added.
