The local administration has locked down the district of Cox's Bazar to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Kamal Hossain announced the decision on Wednesday afternoon.
“No one will be able to get out or enter the district until further instructions are given,” said DC Kamal.
He warned of stern legal actions if anyone violates this order.
“I request everyone to stay indoors to keep yourself, your family, and the country safe from coronavirus," he further added.
The lockdown is also effective for the 34 Rohingya Camps in the district.
Meanwhile, 227 isolation beds are ready in the district’s 8 upazilas for patients infected with the coronavirus.
Cox’s Bazar district Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed.
Doctors and nurses are also prepared to fight the virus with enough supplies of medical equipment and personal protection equipment, he added.
Moreover, eight international health care centres in coordination with the local administration have prepared a 66-bed isolation unit for people living in the Rohingya Camps.
Additionally, 106 beds in 29 private hospitals are also put on standby to treat coronavirus infected patients, while 11 ambulances are ready for transportation, district administration sources confirmed.
Cox's Bazar’s 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital’s Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and Emergency Department Head Md Shahin Abdur Rahman Choudhury said: “An isolation unit has been set up in the fourth floor of the old medical college building.”
In Cox’s Bazar, 517 people are placed in home quarantine and 23 in institutional quarantine as of Wednesday.
