Coronavirus: Khulna city put under lockdown

Total 123 people have been found coronavirus-positive in 15 different districts, including 64 in Dhaka

Khulna city has been put under lockdown to avert a further spread of coronavirus.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Monday night, Khulna Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu, said: “To stop the spread of Covid-19, apart from government-permitted individuals and vehicles, the entry and exit of all people and transport have been suspended in Khulna city.

“The opening and closing of shops in the city, apart from pharmacies, will adhere to the directives issued by the district administration.”

“This announcement will remain in force for all people in Khulna city till further notice. 

“Those who violate these instructions will face stern legal action,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General Abul Kalam Azad, in an online briefing, informed the media that a total of 123 people had been found coronavirus-positive in 15 different districts, including 64 patients in Dhaka.

Narayanganj is in second position with 23 cases, while Madaripur is in third position.

Five cases were reported in Gaibandha, three in Jamalpur, two in Chittagong, one each in Comilla, Chuadanga, Gazipur, Shariatpur, Cox's Bazar, Narshingdi, Moulvibazar, Sylhet and Rangpur.

Four people were also found to be infected in four upazilas outside of Dhaka metropolitan area.

So far, 123 people across Bangladesh have been confirmed infected with Covid-19 alongside 12 deaths.
