The Election Commission (EC) has directed all 59 registered political parties to submit their audited income and expenditure statements for the 2025 calendar year by July 31, reminding them of their legal obligation to comply with the deadline.

Election Management Branch officials confirmed the matter on Tuesday, saying that as July 31 falls on a Friday, parties will be allowed to submit their financial statements on the next working day.

Under the law, every registered political party must file its audited income and expenditure statement for the previous calendar year by July 31.

Mohammad Delwar Hossain, senior assistant secretary of the Election Management Branch, said letters had already been sent to all registered political parties instructing them to submit their financial statements within the stipulated timeframe.

Meanwhile, the EC has yet to upload to its website the election expenditure reports submitted by political parties that contested the 13th parliamentary election.

Asked why the reports had not been published, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Mashud told Dhaka Tribune that the issue would be addressed.

"We will instruct that the reports be uploaded to the website. The public has the right to know how political parties are spending their money," he said.

On the seven political parties that have yet to submit their election expenditure accounts, Mashud said the EC had already issued show-cause notices.

"We have asked the seven parties to submit their election expense accounts. If they still fail to comply, we will consider taking further action," he added.
