The fourth day of discussions in the second phase of the National Consensus Commission's dialogue is currently underway.
The meeting began at 11:30am on Thursday at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Top leaders from various political parties including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), AB Party, and Ganosamhati Andolon are participating in the dialogue.
Thursday's discussion mainly focuses on the unfinished conversation from Wednesday regarding the presidential election and the tenure of the prime minister.
Although the discussions on the National Constitutional Council (NCC) and the District Coordination Council concluded on Wednesday, the topic of the presidential election remained unresolved.
At the start of the meeting, Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Dr Ali Riaz said: “Although consensus has been reached on some issues, several important matters remain unresolved. We may need to sit again next week to address them. We are trying to finalize the National Charter by July. For that, everyone’s cooperation is essential.”
He also called for an honest evaluation of past mistakes and shortcomings.
After the meeting, Prof Ali Riaz will brief journalists first.
Later, representatives from the political parties will also address the media.
