Update : 02 Jun 2025, 11:08 AM

The second phase of discussions between political parties and the National Consensus Commission is set to begin on Monday, with the aim of establishing consensus on reforms across various sectors of the state.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, chief of the National Consensus Commission and chief adviser to the interim government, will inaugurate the second phase of discussions with political parties at 4pm on Monday at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy.

According to sources within the Commission, following the chief adviser’s meetings with political parties, the Commission will hold issue-based discussions with the parties.

One session will take place before the Eid-ul-Azha, and after Eid, the issue-based discussions with the parties will continue in phases.

Special emphasis will be given to the key proposals of the Constitution Reform Commission on which consensus has not yet been reached.

The National Consensus Commission aims to prepare a “July Charter” next month based on agreements reached through these discussions with political parties.

At a press conference held on Sunday, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said: "The chief adviser will inaugurate the second phase of the discussions by the Consensus Commission. Delegations from all political parties involved in the reform process have been invited.”

In October of last year, the interim government formed reform commissions on the constitution, electoral system, public administration, judiciary, Anti-Corruption Commission, and police.

These commissions submitted their final reports in February.

To establish consensus on the reform proposals, the National Consensus Commission began its work on February 15.
