In light of the rapidly changing political situation, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has once again raised the issue of holding elections between December and June during a meeting with representatives of three political parties, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
Speaking to reporters at around 10:15pm on Saturday, Shafiqul briefed the media following the meeting.
Earlier, Chief Adviser Dr Yunus held separate meetings with the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) at the State Guest House Jamuna to discuss the ongoing political situation.
According to the press secretary, party leaders discussed the current state of affairs, upcoming elections, proposed reforms, and presented their respective party positions and demands.
Shafiqul Alam said that all parties have expressed their desire for elections to be held under the chief adviser's leadership.
“Everyone wants the elections to be held under the chief adviser. Dr Yunus has said the elections will take place between December and June. Jamaat has expressed its support for this timeline.”
He added that the NCP believes a level playing field is not possible under the current circumstances and has called for a restructuring of the Election Commission.
The press secretary also said that the trial proceedings for the July massacre are expected to begin this month.
In addition, he mentioned that BNP representatives have raised the issue of certain members of the advisory council resigning.
