The Office of the Chief Adviser has strongly condemned a remark made by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali regarding the avoidance of the term "rape."
In a statement on Sunday, the Chief Adviser's Press Wing said: “Rape is rape—whether committed against an eight-year-old or an 80-year-old. Such a heinous crime must be called by its rightful name.”
The interim government also reaffirmed its commitment to justice, saying that it will not tolerate any form of violence against any citizen of Bangladesh.
Earlier, on Saturday, the DMP chief requested the media to avoid using the word "rape" and, instead, to use the phrase "violence against women."
