The Fisheries and Livestock Adviser, Farida Akhter, has announced the establishment of a special directorate to support the families of those who lost their lives in the July-August movement and to rehabilitate the injured.
She made this statement while addressing a farmers’ assembly as the chief guest on Wednesday at the Harihara Government Primary School field in Shailkupa Upazila, Jhenaidah. The event was organized by the Farmers’ Council.
She also said that the directorate, operating under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, will assist individuals affected in the anti-discrimination movement.
Farida Akhter said: "Through this directorate, assistance from all departments will be delivered to the victims."
The adviser also highlighted the necessity of leasing beels and baors (water bodies) only to genuine fishermen, warning that leases should not be granted to non-fishermen.
She urged district commissioners and upazila executive officers to remain vigilant in this regard.
She added: "Three ministries are working on the lease management system, and it is expected to be resolved soon."
