'This will provide an exit route for those who choose to change their career,' read the report

The Public Administration Reform Commission (PARC) has suggested government employees be allowed to seek voluntary retirement with full benefits after 15 years of service, instead of existing 25 years.

“It is recommended that public employees be allowed to retire with all benefits after 15 years of service. This will provide an exit route for those who choose to change their career,” read the PARC report submitted on Wednesday to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The Commission, chaired by former government secretary Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, also recommended the scrapping of Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018, which allows the government to impose compulsory retirement on any employee after 25 years of service, at its discretion.
